Until the beginning of 2011 Tim and Michelle lived on Waiheke Island after nine blissfully good years with young children. They had a lifestyle which can only be described as low security. They never locked the house and often left wallets, keys and phones in vehicles which sat out on the street!!!
In 2008 they had planned an adventure to work and live in Morocco with their young family for a year. Unexpectedly selling their office accessories business a week before they left, meant sticking to the plan but not for the time they envisaged. So off they went – spending several months living in the sweltering heat of Marrakech. Hot? Yes! But huge fun and a ton of creative inspiration.
Finally returning to Waiheke with NO business to speak of they concluded after a period of indecision it was time to move to town. Next stop Westmere, central Auckland. Medium density housing with lots of houses and lots of neighbours!
Combining their two talents (industrial design, furniture design, a love of contemporary craft), and a burning desire to get back into a hands on business, Tim and Michelle saw an opportunity to bring creative security doors to inner-city dwellers and families. DORAdoors is born.
More accustomed to delegating the manufacturing of his designs, Tim decided with DORA to set up his own workshop to produce light security doors quickly and efficiently. With Tim’s background in industrial design, modern furniture and product design, he offers experienced ability and lightening speed skill to make new designs in response to customer’s ideas.
At DORA we hope to provide you with a quick and simple solution, keeping the decision making and installation process easy with our creative standard designs and expert service.
